Microsoft’s Xbox marketing chief, Jerret West, is leaving the company to join Roblox as their chief marketing officer. This move is part of a larger restructuring within Xbox’s marketing division, as revealed in an internal memo from Microsoft gaming CEO Phil Spencer. During his eight years at Xbox, West was instrumental in numerous marketing campaigns for games and consoles and contributed to the expansion of services like Xbox’s Game Pass. After a stint at Netflix leading various marketing teams, West returned to Microsoft in 2019 to become Xbox’s chief marketing officer.
Earlier this month, Microsoft showcased new all-digital consoles and game trailers, including a new “Call of Duty” title, at its annual Xbox Games Showcase, aiming to boost consumer interest despite overall industry spending declines. West’s departure coincides with the formation of a central gaming marketing team and the reorganization of other marketing teams within Xbox. Spencer emphasized the decision to align marketing efforts more closely with the business units they support. Additionally, Microsoft recently closed several gaming studios, including Arkane Austin, and consolidated teams as part of cost-cutting measures.
