The updates for International Yoga Day 2024 bring us to Srinagar, where this year’s festivities began after a brief delay caused by rainy weather. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the occasion focuses on the theme “Yoga for Self and Society”, emphasizing yoga’s significant influence on personal well-being and social cohesion.
Initially planned to take place by the picturesque Dal Lake in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the activities were relocated indoors due to continuous rainfall. Nonetheless, Prime Minister Modi actively engaged in a half-hour yoga session, illustrating his dedication to advocating the benefits of yoga on both individual and communal levels.
The theme “Yoga for Self and Society” underscores how yoga not only enhances personal health but also promotes community unity. Over the years, Prime Minister Modi has led International Yoga Day observances at several iconic venues across India, such as Delhi’s Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, and Jabalpur. His leadership of last year’s event at the UN Headquarters in New York further elevated global awareness and interest in this year’s program hosted in Srinagar.
