Toyota Reopens Bookings for Innova Hycross ZX and ZX(O) Hybrids

Toyota has reopened bookings for the top-spec ZX and ZX(O) trims of the Innova Hycross hybrid, which were previously halted in May due to overwhelming demand. Despite resuming orders, the waiting period for these models remains high.

This marks the second instance of Toyota halting and then reopening bookings for the ZX and ZX(O) hybrid variants. Initially, bookings were paused in April 2023 due to supply chain issues and resumed a year later. The hybrid variants have proven extremely popular, comprising over 50 percent of Innova Hycross’ sales, even with their premium pricing compared to regular petrol models.

To address the high demand, Toyota has streamlined internal processes and increased production capacity, particularly for the hybrid variants. The reopening of bookings for the ZX and ZX(O) trims indicates some progress in managing the demand. Most of the enhanced production capacity has been allocated to the hybrid models.

Regarding the waiting period, Toyota’s official website lists a pan-India average of 13 months for the Innova Hycross hybrid. However, dealer sources report a shorter waiting period of about 6-8 months, depending on the location. Toyota aims to reduce this to under six months by the end of the year. Currently, the regular petrol variants have a waiting period of around six months.

In terms of specifications and pricing, the hybrid powertrain is available on the top four trims of the MPV: VX, VX(O), ZX, and ZX(O). Prices range from Rs 25.97 lakh to Rs 30.98 lakh. The 2.0-liter strong-hybrid powertrain produces 184hp and 188Nm, paired with an e-CVT gearbox, and boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.24 km/l.

The reopening of bookings for the top-spec Innova Hycross hybrid variants suggests Toyota is making headway in addressing the demand-supply imbalance, but potential buyers should still anticipate a considerable wait. If demand surges again, there’s a possibility that bookings might be halted once more.
