A three-storey building in Shahbaz village, Navi Mumbai, collapsed early Saturday morning. At least two people are feared trapped under the debris. Emergency teams, including police, firefighters, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are working to rescue them.

The building, named Indira Niwas, fell around 5 a.m. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailas Shinde said, “We have rescued two people, but two others are still trapped. The NDRF team is working hard to rescue them.”

Deputy Fire Officer Purushottam Jadhav said the collapse was reported at 4:50 a.m. He added, “We have saved two people, and two more are likely trapped. Our teams are working to reach them.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for Madhya Maharashtra on July 28 due to heavy rain, causing severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions in the region, including Mumbai.

This incident follows a similar event on July 20, when a balcony at the Rubina Manzil building in Mumbai’s Grand Road area collapsed. That collapse resulted in one death and 13 injuries. Heavy rain has been disrupting public transport and causing problems for commuters in Mumbai.

Before the building fell on Saturday, most residents had already evacuated after it started shaking. About 40 adults and 13 children were moved to a nearby shelter safely.
