Tata Motors has introduced its new vehicle architecture, ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture), with the debut of the Curvv coupe-SUV. This versatile platform is designed to support a range of body styles and powertrain options and will be foundational for Tata’s future internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, including the upcoming Sierra.
Key Features of the ATLAS Platform
- Platform Status: ATLAS is Tata Motors’ fifth platform.
- Vehicle Support: It will underpin future ICE models, accommodating various body styles such as SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, and coupe-SUVs like the Curvv.
- Dimensions: The platform can support vehicles ranging from 3.9 meters to 4.6 meters in length, with adjustable wheelbase and width options.
Safety and Structure - Safety Features: The ATLAS platform emphasizes safety and crashworthiness. It features a continuous framework, rigid bulkhead structures, and robust suspension and engine mounting points, designed to manage impact loads effectively and ensure symmetrical crash performance.
- Advanced Architecture: It includes a sophisticated electrical and cloud platform. The Curvv showcases an integrated cockpit domain controller that manages multiple displays, a centralized body controller, and over 24 PCUs.
Powertrain and Capability - Powertrain Options: The ATLAS platform supports both petrol and diesel engines, available with manual and automatic transmissions.Â
- SUV Capability: Tata claims the platform delivers genuine ‘SUV capability,’ with features such as 450mm water wading capacity, 208mm ground clearance, and competitive approach, departure, and breakover angles. According to Mohan Savarkar, Vice President and Chief Product Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, these specifications are comparable to SUVs from two segments above.
Future Applications - Upcoming Models: The Sierra SUV will use the ATLAS platform for its ICE versions, and the Nexon compact SUV may also transition to this platform in the future.
The pricing for the Curvv’s petrol and diesel variants will be announced on September 2.
