On July 25, 2024, Suzuki announced a significant recall for its Suzuki Access 125, Burgman 125, and Avenis 125 models. This recall pertains to vehicles manufactured between April 30 and December 3, 2022.

The recall is due to a defect in the high-tension cord connected to the ignition coil. Suzuki explains the issue as follows: “A high-tension cord that did not meet the drawing requirements (NG) was installed in the ignition coil. This defect causes cracks and breakage in the cord due to repeated bending from engine oscillation during operation. As a result, the engine may stall and fail to start. Additionally, if the cracked high-tension cord is exposed to water, the vehicle speed sensor and throttle position sensor can be damaged by the leaked ignition output, leading to speed display failure or starting issues.”

The recall affects 263,788 units of the Access, 52,578 units of the Avenis, and 72,025 units of the Burgman 125. Suzuki emphasizes that this is a precautionary recall and advises affected owners to visit their nearest service center to have the faulty part replaced.

In a separate recall, Suzuki has also issued a notice for the V-Strom 800DE in India for vehicles manufactured between May 5, 2023, and April 23, 2024. This international recall affects up to 67 units in India. The problem in this case involves a defective rear tire, where cracks or deformations can develop in the tread. If left unchecked, parts of the rear tire tread could separate from the tire structure, adversely affecting overall vehicle dynamics. Suzuki will replace the affected bikes’ rear tires to resolve this issue.
