Srinagar, July 2 (PTI) – Security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district have apprehended an individual associated with militant outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF), officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The person, identified as Shakir Ahmad Lone from Dangerpora Sheeri, was discovered in possession of a handgun, a magazine, eight bullets, and three grenades, according to authorities.
“A combined effort by Baramulla Police and security forces resulted in the apprehension of an individual linked to proscribed groups LeT-TRF. Weapons and items of interest were confiscated from the suspect,” a police spokesperson stated.
The arrest occurred during a joint patrol in Baramulla town’s Eco Park Crossing area, where Lone attempted to evade capture but was swiftly detained.
“During interrogation, it was revealed that he is associated with LeT-TRF and maintains communication with a handler based in Pakistan. He was allegedly plotting an attack in Baramulla town,” the spokesperson elaborated.
Police, in collaboration with Army 46 RR, arrested the suspect and recovered weapons and incriminating items at Eco Park Crossing in Baramulla district, North Kashmir.
“Acting on specific intelligence regarding militant activity, a joint patrol by Baramulla Police and Army 46 RR was conducted in the Eco Park Crossing area. The suspect tried to flee but was apprehended by the patrol team,” the spokesperson explained.
“The suspect, identified as Shakir Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rashid from Dangerpora Sheeri, was found in possession of 1 handgun, 1 magazine, 8 pistol cartridges, and 3 grenades,” the spokesperson disclosed.
“The arrested individual also admitted to maintaining contact with a handler in Pakistan and planning a terrorist operation in Baramulla town.”
