The flyover near Rajaram Bridge on Sinhagad Road, which political leaders have claimed was delayed due to the unavailability of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will be opened to traffic as part of the Independence Day celebrations on Thursday.
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) had organized protests demanding the flyover’s opening, arguing that it would alleviate traffic congestion on the busy Sinhagad Road.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar will be the chief guest at the inauguration.
NCP (SP) city unit president Prashant Jagtap and local leader Ashwini Kadam criticized the civic administration for postponing the inauguration, attributing the delay to political reasons and the unavailability of ministers, including Fadnavis.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Madhuri Misal explained that the delay was due to incomplete third-layer tarring and recent heavy rains that hindered the work.
Kadam responded by stating that the civic body only expedited the inauguration after sustained efforts and protests from their side, suggesting that otherwise, the opening might have been postponed until the assembly elections.
