Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for 18 months due to multiple whereabouts failures, according to a Tuesday announcement by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Bhagat, who competes in the SL3 classification, was found to have breached anti-doping regulations by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Anti-Doping Division on March 1, 2024. The breach involved three instances of failing to report his location within a 12-month period.
Bhagat, who initially contested the ruling, had his appeal rejected by the CAS Appeals Division on July 29, 2024. The Appeals Division upheld the original decision, confirming the 18-month suspension. As a result, Bhagat will be ineligible to compete, including missing the upcoming Paris Paralympic Games.
Bhagat previously won a gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category at the Tokyo Paralympics, defeating Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in the final.
