Nissan has unveiled the fourth-gen X-Trail for India, set to launch soon as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). With its introduction, Nissan India’s lineup will expand to two models, joining the Magnite compact SUV.
Design and Features
The India-bound X-Trail will offer three color options: Diamond Black, Champagne Silver, and Pearl White. It features a dark chrome ‘V-Motion’ grille, split-headlamp setup, rounded wheel arches with plastic cladding, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and wraparound LED tail-lamps. Based on the CMF-C platform, the X-Trail is available overseas in 5- and 7-seater versions, but India will get the three-row model.
Specifications
The X-Trail measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, 1,725mm in height, and has a 2,705mm wheelbase. It boasts a 5.5m turning radius, 210mm ground clearance, and 255/45 R20 tyres.
Interior Highlights
The X-Trail’s interior includes a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry, and push-button start. Additional features include drive modes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and paddle shifters. The second row offers 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining functions, while the third row provides 50/50 split-folding and reclining functions.
Safety Features
The India-spec X-Trail comes equipped with seven airbags, auto wipers, ABS and EBD, traction control, a limited-slip differential, hill-start assist, and front parking sensors.
Powertrain
The X-Trail for India will feature a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a variable compression ratio, paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system producing 163hp and 300Nm. This powertrain will be mated to a shift-by-wire CVT automatic gearbox, which minimizes the rubberband effect.
Expected Price and Rivals
The X-Trail’s price in India is expected to range between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh, positioning it against competitors like the Toyota Fortuner (Rs 33.43 lakh-51.44 lakh), its Legender variant (Rs 43.66 lakh-47.64 lakh), the Skoda Kodiaq (Rs 39.99 lakh), the MG Gloster (Rs 38.80 lakh-43.16 lakh), and the Jeep Meridian (Rs 29.49 lakh-39.83 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom, India.
For Nissan, the X-Trail aims to rejuvenate brand interest as it prepares for a series of new product launches starting in 2025.
