In the aftermath of the tragic Pune Porsche crash involving a minor, significant legal proceedings have unfolded, culminating in the minor’s recent compliance actions under the directives of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). Following the Bombay High Court’s decision on June 25 to grant bail to the accused under strict conditions, the minor has been engaged in fulfilling these obligations.
One crucial condition mandated by the JJB was the submission of a 300-word essay on road accidents and their solutions. This essay, as required, was submitted to the JJB on July 3. Additionally, the minor is undergoing psychological counseling at Sassoon Hospital and has initiated engagement with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to study traffic rules and norms.
The incident itself, which occurred in the early hours of May 19, involved the minor allegedly driving a Porsche at high speed while intoxicated, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. This prompted legal proceedings where the Pune police initially sought remand of the accused to the juvenile observation home. Subsequent appeals and challenges ensued, including the High Court’s intervention to grant bail and quash previous detention orders deemed illegal.
The conditions set forth by the JJB, as reflected in their May 19 order, include not only educational and rehabilitative measures but also precautions regarding the minor’s associations and behavior. These include ongoing parental supervision and the directive to steer clear of negative influences.
