The Suzuki Hustler has been spotted testing in India, and while it has generated interest, it is yet to face competition from a comparable Maruti rival to the Tata Punch. Here’s what we know from the recent spy shots:
– Design and Appearance:
A test mule of the Suzuki Hustler was seen without camouflage, revealing its distinctive Kei car design. The vehicle was finished in a light white/silver with a dual-tone effect, featuring a darker gray roof that seamlessly blends into the C and D pillars and the top half of the rear tailgate. The spied model lacked wheel center hub caps, and both the Suzuki logo and Hustler branding were covered to conceal its identity.

– Design Features:
The Hustler showcases a boxy silhouette and a large glass area typical of Kei cars. It includes crossover elements such as roof rails and body cladding, along with a flat, upright bonnet and a flat fascia. Its wheelbase measures 2,425 mm, and the wheels are pushed out with minimal overhangs.

– Interior:
Inside, the Hustler features a quirky layout with space to comfortably seat four adults. It is built on the Heartect platform, which is also used for other Suzuki models.
Potential for Launch in India
– Dimensions and Market Fit:
At 3,395 mm in length and 1,475 mm in width, the Hustler is relatively compact for the Indian market. If Suzuki decides to introduce it in India, a longer, India-specific version may be developed, similar to what Hyundai did with the Exter based on the Korean-spec Casper.

– Market Considerations:
Given the limited appeal for sub-4m, 7-seater vehicles in India, the Hustler might serve as a suitable alternative to the Maruti Ignis, which has seen diminishing interest. In fact, the Jimny has recently outsold the Ignis. Despite the Hustler’s potential, there is a possibility that Suzuki may not launch it in India, as the company has previously tested global models in India without bringing them to market.
Stay tuned for more updates on whether the Suzuki Hustler will make its debut in India.
