Mahindra XUV700 Sees 74% of Sales from Diesel Variants

Mahindra’s flagship SUV, the XUV700, launched on August 14, 2021, is nearing a significant milestone in India, approaching 200,000 units sold. As of the end of July, Mahindra has delivered 196,971 XUV700s to dealers. In the first four months of FY2025 (April-July), sales reached 24,839 units, marking a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

  • Sales Surge: XUV700 sales rose by 15% year-on-year during April-July 2024, totaling 24,839 units.
  • Diesel Dominance: Diesel variants now account for 74% of XUV700 sales, up from 70% last year.
  • Increased Production: Production of the XUV700 has increased by 5% during the same period.

The XUV700 saw a 19% sales increase in FY2024, totaling 79,398 units and making up 27% of Mahindra’s total sales. It ranked second among 11 executive midsize SUVs, just behind the Scorpio, which sold 141,462 units.

For the current fiscal year, the XUV700 is the fourth-best-selling Mahindra model, with 24,839 units sold. The Scorpio twins lead, followed by the XUV300/3XO and the Bolero. With the festive season approaching, the XUV700 is expected to perform even better.

Variants and Pricing

The XUV700 is available in both 5- and 7-seater configurations with a range of powertrain options and 44 variants (19 petrol and 25 diesel). 

  • Petrol Engine: 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion engine with 200hp and 380Nm torque, available with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
  • Diesel Engines: 2.2-litre mHawk engine with options of 155hp and 360Nm (base MX trim) or 185hp and 420Nm, with the automatic variant offering 450Nm. The XUV700 also offers all-wheel drive on AX7 and AX7L trims.

Prices start from ₹17.23 lakh for the base 2.0P MX (5-seater) manual petrol and go up to ₹32.35 lakh (on-road) for the 2.2D AX7 AT AW L (7-seater). It competes with SUVs such as the Tata Harrier and Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar.

Production Plans

In response to strong demand, Mahindra plans to further increase XUV700 production. The company aims to reach 64,000 units per month or 7,68,000 units annually by the end of FY2025, with a target of 72,000 units per month or 8,64,000 units annually by the end of 2026.

During April-July 2024, Mahindra increased XUV700 production by 5% compared to the previous year, with April seeing the highest monthly production of 6,353 units. The company announced in June that the XUV700 had surpassed the 200,000 production milestone.
