The Mahindra Thar 5-door, officially named the Mahindra Thar Roxx, will be unveiled this Independence Day. This highly anticipated 5-door SUV, set to be one of 2024’s standout launches, has been in development for over two years. Building on the success of the Thar 3-door, the Thar Roxx aims to offer increased practicality while preserving the iconic off-roading spirit. Here’s a look at some common questions about the upcoming Thar Roxx.
When will Mahindra launch the Thar Roxx?
In keeping with its tradition of revealing new vehicles on Independence Day, Mahindra will unveil the Thar Roxx on August 15. Official bookings are expected to start on the same day, though some dealers may begin accepting pre-bookings beforehand.
What engine options will the Thar Roxx offer?
The Thar Roxx will likely feature Mahindra’s mHawk Gen2 diesel engine, maintaining the 2.2-liter displacement. Power outputs are expected to be 150hp and 350Nm for the entry-level model, and 172hp and 370Nm for the higher variant.
Petrol variants will be powered by the 2.0-liter turbo engine found in the Scorpio N and XUV700. Two power outputs are anticipated: 160hp and 330Nm for the entry-level model, and 175hp and 380Nm for the higher variants.
How will the Thar Roxx differ from the regular Thar?
The Thar Roxx will feature a longer wheelbase, aligning its ladder-frame chassis more closely with that of the Scorpio N. It is also expected to adopt the Scorpio N’s advanced suspension setup, including frequency-dependent dampers for improved on-road comfort.
Styling updates include a new grille with a double-stacked six-slot design, replacing the seven-slot grille of the 3-door Thar. The Roxx will also have LED projector headlamps and new C-shaped DRLs while retaining the circular headlamp design.

Will the Thar Roxx come with more features than the regular Thar?
Yes, the Thar Roxx will be better equipped with features such as a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, push-button start, front and rear center armrests, leatherette upholstery, rear AC vents, six airbags (up from two), and a panoramic sunroof. It will also include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an ADAS Level 2 safety suite. Additionally, the Thar Roxx will have rear disc brakes, unlike the regular Thar’s front disc brakes only.
Will the Thar Roxx be a 7-seater SUV?
Despite its extended wheelbase, the Thar Roxx will remain a two-row, five-seat SUV. The second row will feature a bench seat with a center armrest, replacing the two individual seats in the regular Thar. The increased length will provide more boot space, addressing a limitation of the current Thar.
