Mahindra is gearing up to unveil the eagerly anticipated Thar 5-door model on August 15, coinciding with India’s 78th Independence Day. This new variant promises an extended wheelbase and a fresh exterior design, marking a significant departure from its three-door predecessor.

Externally, the Thar 5-door showcases a redesigned front fascia with a body-colored grille and all-LED headlights. The sculpted bumpers feature a silver finish and house integrated fog lamps. Along the sides, an elongated wheelbase accommodates an additional set of doors with pillar-mounted handles, complemented by side-steps and top-spec dual-tone alloy wheels.

At the rear, updated LED tail lights and a revised spare wheel cover enhance the vehicle’s aesthetics, as seen in recent spy images.

Inside, the Thar 5-door aims to impress with a range of modern features catering to India’s discerning SUV market. Notable inclusions are a generous 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, coupled with connected car technology. A digital driver’s display of the same size, keyless entry with push-button start, and a panoramic sunroof further elevate the cabin’s appeal.

Comfort and convenience extend to wireless phone charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an interior theme reminiscent of the XUV700’s lighter tones, distinct from the darker ambiance of its three-door counterpart.

Safety remains paramount with standard six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and all-wheel disc brakes. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control and emergency braking are anticipated, alongside a 360-degree camera setup and front/rear parking sensors.

Powering the Thar 5-door are anticipated choices from its existing lineup: a retuned 150 PS 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine and a 132 PS 2.2-liter diesel variant. Transmission options likely include a six-speed manual and a torque converter automatic, catering to diverse driving preferences.

Expected to debut competitively priced around Rs 15 lakh, the Thar 5-door will challenge rivals like the Force Gurkha 5-door, offering a larger alternative to the popular Maruti Suzuki Jimny. With its blend of enhanced design, feature-rich interior, and robust performance capabilities, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is poised to make a substantial impact in India’s SUV segment.
