Kia India has initiated a voluntary recall of 1,138 units of its EV6 due to a potential issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), impacting the performance of the 12V auxiliary battery. This recall affects EV6s manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023. A similar concern prompted Hyundai to recall its Ioniq 5 recently. Kia plans to address the issue through a software update for the ICCU in the affected vehicles.
The Korean automaker has informed the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) about the recall and will directly contact affected vehicle owners to arrange for the necessary software update at Kia dealerships. Owners are advised to schedule appointments promptly to ensure their vehicles receive the update.
The Kia EV6 boasts a 77.4kWh battery pack, offering configurations of single motor rear-wheel drive with 229hp and 350Nm torque, and dual motor all-wheel drive producing a combined 325hp and 605Nm torque. It delivers an ARAI-rated range of up to 708km, positioning it against entry-level luxury SUVs like the BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge, Mercedes EQA, and its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
In India, the Kia EV6 is priced between Rs 64.11 lakh and Rs 69.35 lakh ex-showroom. Kia plans to introduce a facelift version, recently unveiled internationally, to the Indian market next year.
