Kia India has surpassed the one-million-unit wholesale milestone in the domestic market, achieving this significant mark in June 2024. The company’s cumulative sales from August 2019 to July 2024 total 1,023,515 units.
Kia India Wholesale Breakdown:
Kia India, which started selling vehicles in August 2019, took just under six years to reach the one-million-unit wholesale figure. The company crossed the 600,000-unit mark in November 2022 and surpassed 700,000 units five months later, in April 2023. The leap from 700,000 to one million units was achieved in 13 months.
Model-wise Contribution:
Kia India currently offers four models: the Seltos, Sonet, EV6, and Carens. The Seltos, launched in August 2019, is the top seller with cumulative sales of 492,497 units, accounting for 48% of total dispatches as of August 2024. It is followed by the Sonet, with 347,670 units sold, representing 34% of total sales.
In 2024, the Sonet has outpaced the Seltos in sales for seven consecutive months. From January to July 2024, the Sonet sold 63,991 units, 40% more than the Seltos’ 45,691 units during the same period.
The Carens, introduced on February 15, 2022, is the third-highest contributor, with 167,650 units sold in 29 months, making up 16% of total sales. The EV6, Kia’s first EV in India, launched in June 2022, has sold 1,156 units.
Looking ahead, Kia will introduce the all-electric EV9 SUV later this year. This new model, alongside the premium EV6, will be positioned at the high end of the EV market. Additionally, Kia plans to launch a mass-market, made-in-India EV in 2025.
Export and Future Plans:
Since rolling out its millionth made-in-India car on July 13, 2023, Kia India has produced an additional 63,507 units, bringing total cumulative production to 1.26 million units. The company has also exported 258,339 units. Kia India’s dealership network has expanded to 5,885 touchpoints across 265 cities. The EV9 and a new Carnival MPV will launch in India in the second half of this year, with local assembly for the Carnival to start later.
