*Kalki 2898 AD*, starring Prabhas, stormed into theatres with a bang, raking in an impressive Rs 555 crore worldwide within its first four days. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the epic sci-fi spectacle released across multiple languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Despite its massive initial success, the film encountered a sharp decline in box office collections on its first Monday, marking a substantial drop from its Sunday earnings.
In India, the film’s domestic nett collection reached Rs 343.6 crore after its fifth day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This was a significant decrease from its Sunday peak of Rs 88.2 crore, with collections plummeting by over 60% on Monday. Notably, the Telugu version of *Kalki* contributed significantly to its success, dominating the regional box office. For instance, Telugu earnings dropped from Rs 38.8 crore on Sunday to Rs 14.5 crore on Monday, paralleling a decrease in occupancy to 47.18%.
Similarly, the Hindi version saw a decline from Rs 40 crore on Sunday to Rs 16.5 crore on Monday, reflecting a 58.7% drop. Cumulatively, the film garnered Rs 182 crore and Rs 128 crore nett in Telugu and Hindi respectively in India.
Internationally, *Kalki 2898 AD* garnered attention as well, securing substantial earnings across various territories. For instance, it earned 1,247,662 ruble in Russia, 251,287 euro in Germany, and significant figures in Ireland, France, Norway, and Poland over its opening weekend. In North America alone, the film amassed $11 million.
Achieving the status of the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 thus far, *Kalki* also claimed the third-biggest domestic opening ever, trailing only *Baahubali 2* and *RRR*. By comparison, after five days, *Baahubali 2* had accrued Rs 705 crore globally, while *RRR* had earned Rs 618 crore. Even *KGF 2* with its Rs 609.7 crore collections couldn’t match *Kalki*’s initial success.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, alongside notable cameos, *Kalki 2898 AD* has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the global box office landscape of 2024.
