The Gangs of Wasseypur series, featuring stars like Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has achieved cult status in Indian cinema, sparking ongoing speculation about a potential third instalment. Despite persistent rumours, director Anurag Kashyap has clarified that he has no plans to revisit the world of Wasseypur.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Kashyap addressed the ongoing speculation about Gangs of Wasseypur 3, emphasizing that he is not interested in expanding the Wasseypur universe. “Nahi aayegi. Mujhe koi Wasseypur universe nahi banana. Businessmen alag sochte hain. Har cheez ka universe bann raha hai na aaj kal. Mujhe kuch nahi banana. Mujhe apni bohot saari alag alag filme banani hain. (No, it won’t happen. I don’t want to create a Wasseypur universe. Businessmen think differently. Everything is becoming part of a universe these days. I am not interested in that. I want to make a variety of films and tell different stories),” Kashyap said.

He further added, “Wasseypur 3 uss din banaunga jis din langda lula ho jaunga. Jab mere paas koi chaara nahi bachega koi kaam karne ka, main Wasseypur 3 announce karke bohot paise kamaunga taaki mera ilaaj ho sake. (I will consider making Wasseypur 3 only if I find myself in a dire situation, needing money and with no other options. It would be a last resort to announce Wasseypur 3 and earn money for my treatment).”
