The Directorate of Public Relations Jammu confirmed on Monday that a significant terror attack on an Army picket in a remote village of Rajouri was thwarted. Gunfire continues in the Gundha area of Rajouri, with more details awaited.
In recent months, there has been an increase in terror incidents across Jammu, including attacks on an army convoy in Kathua and encounters in Doda and Udhampur.
Last Thursday, Indian Army troops responded to suspicious movement near the Line of Control in Sunderbani, Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.
In another incident on Thursday, two Indian Army soldiers were injured during an encounter with terrorists in Kastigarh, Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. They received initial treatment at the government hospital in Doda before being airlifted to an Army hospital by helicopter.
This encounter followed days after four army soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action while battling terrorists in Doda. On July 15, a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on specific intelligence, engaged terrorists north of Doda resulting in a heavy firefight and the deaths of Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay.
On July 16, Lt. Gen. MV Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, paid tribute to the brave soldiers who gave their lives during the Doda operation, underscoring their role in maintaining peace in the region.
