Hyundai has introduced the Exter CNG, featuring new dual-cylinder technology, starting at Rs 8.50 lakh. This makes Hyundai the second manufacturer in India to offer this setup for its CNG cars, following Tata Motors.
The Exter Hy-CNG Duo is Hyundai’s first CNG model to adopt dual-cylinder technology, which replaces the single large cylinder with two smaller ones, thereby increasing boot space. This innovation has led to a Rs 7,000 price hike for both the Exter S CNG and SX CNG variants. Additionally, the CNG version now comes in the recently launched Knight edition, priced at Rs 9.38 lakh.

The Exter CNG is powered by the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine as the standard model. On CNG, it produces 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque. Available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it boasts a claimed efficiency of 27.1km/kg.
This dual-cylinder setup is expected to be extended to other Hyundai models, including the Grand i10 Nios CNG and Aura CNG. Hyundai’s introduction of this technology mirrors similar setups seen in the Tata Altroz, Tiago, Tigor, and the Exter’s direct rival, the Punch.
