In July, Honda surpassed Hero in factory distribution numbers, though Hero still leads in retail sales. According to the VAHAN database, Hero sold 3,94,902 two-wheelers, while Honda’s sales stood at 3,68,409 for the same period.
Suzuki also marked a significant achievement by surpassing the 1 lakh sales milestone for the first time. Here’s a breakdown of the performance of the top six manufacturers in the domestic market for July:
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India – 4,39,118 units
Honda experienced a 41.34% year-on-year (YoY) growth but saw a 9% decline compared to the previous month. The company exported 43,982 units and showcased three new models potentially heading to the Indian market.
Hero MotoCorp – 3,47,535 units
Hero faced a 29.27% drop in sales compared to the previous month and a 6.37% decrease YoY. However, exports increased by 13.9% YoY, including figures from the electric VIDA brand. The company was also seen testing a new Xpulse model.
TVS Motor Co – 2,54,250 units
TVS recorded a slight 0.58% decline from the previous month but achieved an 8.08% YoY growth. The company’s exports rose by 11% compared to July 2023, and an update to the NTorq was recently teased.
Bajaj Auto – 1,68,847 units
Bajaj saw an 18.91% YoY increase but a 4.71% decrease from the previous month. The company launched the world’s first CNG bike in July and plans to export it internationally.
Suzuki – 1,00,602 units
Suzuki reported a 25.26% YoY growth and a substantial 41.52% increase in sales from the previous month. However, exports dropped by 41.46% to 16,112 units. The company also issued a recall for nearly 4 lakh units.
Royal Enfield – 61,208 units
Royal Enfield experienced a 7.34% decline in YoY sales and a 7.42% drop compared to the previous month. Exports also fell by 14%. An update for the Classic 350 is scheduled for release on August 12.
