Introduction

The Honda CGX 150, a retro-styled motorcycle, has made its debut and will soon be launched in China, with potential for expansion into international markets. Scheduled for an official unveiling in September 2024, the CGX 150 will be produced at the Wuyang-Honda facility in China. It will be available in three variants.

Engine and Specifications

The Honda CGX 150 is based on the classic Wuyang Honda CG 125 but features a larger 149cc engine. This air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine produces 12 hp and is expected to be paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The bike’s top speed is projected to be around 98 km/h. There is speculation that a 125cc version of the CGX might be introduced in the future.

Design and Features
The CGX 150 features 17-inch wire spoke wheels with dual-purpose knobby tyres, measuring 90/90-17 at the front and 110/80-17 at the rear. It comes equipped with disc brakes at both ends and front ABS as standard. The suspension includes telescopic forks in the front and dual rear shock absorbers. The bike’s lightweight design, at just 128 kg, enhances its agility and makes it suitable for beginner riders. The slightly upswept exhaust hints at mild off-roading capabilities.

Styling

The CGX 150 shares several design elements with the CB350, including a circular headlamp, circular rear-view mirrors, fork gaiters, a curvy fuel tank, and minimal body panelling. The cafe racer variant features bar-end mirrors, a red-framed design, and a rider-only seat with a rear hump. The fuel tank boasts a vibrant mix of Honda’s signature blue, white, and red colors, complemented by a dual-tone seat and red rear suspension springs.

The other two variants include a grey-black model and an all-black model with official accessories like a visor and side bags. The all-black variant is designed with standard seating and grab rails.

The Honda CGX 150 is set to debut in China in September 2024, with a launch planned for spring 2025. The starting price is expected to be around 10,000 yuan (approximately Rs 1.17 lakh). Following the 150cc model, Honda may consider introducing a smaller 125cc variant based on the same design. The potential for export to various international markets will be assessed.

Potential in India

Given the popularity of the CB350, a smaller 150cc retro bike like the CGX 150 could have potential in India. However, a launch in the Indian market is not anticipated in the immediate future.
