Starting this Independence Day, Haryana’s Directorate of School Education has issued a new directive requiring schools across the state to replace the traditional “good morning” greeting with “Jai Hind.” This move aims to enhance patriotism and national pride among students.

The directive has been sent to all district education officers, block education officers, as well as principals and headmasters, impacting approximately 14,300 government schools and nearly 7,000 private schools in Haryana.

“Jai Hind,” a phrase popularized by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during India’s fight for independence, is now being adopted to remind students of the nation’s history and unity. The greeting, which has been embraced by the armed forces, is intended to foster a sense of unity and discipline among students from various backgrounds, transcending regional, linguistic, and cultural differences.

The goal of this directive is to integrate this patriotic salutation into students’ daily routines, promoting respect for India’s cultural heritage and the sacrifices made for its freedom. It aims to motivate and inspire young Indians to contribute positively to the country’s future.

The circular specifies that the new greeting should be introduced during flag-hoisting ceremonies at Independence Day functions held at schools. While no new legal mandates or penalties for non-compliance are being introduced, the directive encourages schools to incorporate “Jai Hind” alongside existing activities such as daily yoga and quiz sessions.
