The Mahindra Thar 5-door will officially debut as the Mahindra Thar Roxx, with its reveal scheduled for the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day. Pricing for the Thar Roxx will be announced on August 15. This 5-door SUV is one of the most eagerly awaited launches of 2024, having been in development for over two years. While the standard Thar 3-door has been a notable success for Mahindra, the 5-door version aims to enhance its appeal by offering greater practicality while preserving its off-road heritage. Here, we address some of the most common questions about the upcoming Thar Roxx.

When will Mahindra launch the Thar Roxx?

True to its tradition of launching vehicles on Independence Day, Mahindra will unveil the Thar Roxx on August 15, with prices set to be revealed on the same day. Official bookings are expected to start then, although some dealers are already accepting pre-bookings.

What engine options will the Thar Roxx offer?

The Thar Roxx will feature Mahindra’s mHawk Gen2 diesel engine, maintaining a 2.2-liter displacement. The entry-level model will produce around 150hp and 350Nm, while the higher variant will offer 172hp and 370Nm. The petrol variants will use the 2.0-liter turbo engine from the Scorpio N and XUV700, with expected outputs of 160hp and 330Nm for the base model, and 175hp and 380Nm for the higher trims.

How will the Thar Roxx differ from the regular Thar?

The Thar Roxx will have a longer wheelbase, sharing a chassis more closely related to the Scorpio N. It will also feature an upgraded suspension system with frequency-dependent dampers for improved on-road performance. Stylistically, it will sport a new double-stacked six-slot grille, LED projector headlamps, and C-shaped DRLs, contrasting with the seven-slot grille and traditional headlamps of the 3-door Thar.

Will the Thar Roxx be better equipped than the regular Thar?

Yes, the Thar Roxx will come with several upgrades, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, push-button start, front and rear center armrests, leatherette seat upholstery, rear AC vents, six airbags, and a panoramic sunroof. It will also feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an ADAS Level 2 safety suite. Additionally, it will have rear disc brakes, whereas the regular Thar only has front disc brakes.

Will the Thar Roxx be a 7-seater SUV?

Despite its increased wheelbase, the Thar 5-door will remain a two-row SUV with a five-seat configuration. The second row will include a bench seat with a center armrest, as opposed to the individual seats found in the regular Thar. The additional length will provide more boot space, addressing one of the limitations of the current Thar.
