Everything You Need to Know About the BSA Gold Star 650

The BSA Goldstar is set to launch in India soon, positioning itself as a premium offering from Mahindra-owned Classic Legends to compete with Royal Enfield’s 650cc models. Here’s what we know about this upcoming motorcycle:

Launch Date

  • The BSA Goldstar has been available internationally for over a year, but its Indian launch has faced delays due to legal issues concerning the BSA name. Classic Legends has resolved these issues and will officially launch the bike on August 15.

    Engine Specifications
  • Engine: The Goldstar features a 650cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, derived from the 652cc Rotax motor used in older models like the BMW F650 Funduro. This engine, co-developed with Austrian firm BRP-Rotax, delivers 45hp and 55Nm of torque.
  • Comparison: While it produces 2.5hp less than the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, the BSA Goldstar offers 2.7Nm more torque, which is available at a lower 4,000rpm compared to the Interceptor’s 5,150rpm.

    Weight
  • The BSA Goldstar weighs 213kg, making it 5kg lighter than the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Its on-road performance will be better assessed once the bike is ridden.

    Variants and Colors
  • Variants: The Goldstar will be available in two versions: a standard model and a Legacy Edition. Both share the same specifications, but the Legacy Edition features a unique Silver Sheen color scheme with additional chrome accents.
  • Color Options: The standard Goldstar comes in five different colors.

    Unique Selling Points
  • The Goldstar’s standout feature is its engine size. It will be the second-largest single-cylinder engine available in India, after the Ducati Hypermotard Mono’s 659cc unit. If well-refined, the Goldstar could deliver a distinctive and enjoyable riding experience similar to the torque-rich performance appreciated in Royal Enfield’s 350cc bikes.

    Pricing
  • In the UK, the Goldstar is positioned slightly above the Interceptor 650, reflecting its heritage as a more premium brand compared to Royal Enfield. The pricing strategy in India will be crucial, as BSA is less established here compared to Royal Enfield, which could affect its market positioning. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 currently starts at Rs 3.03 lakh (ex-showroom).
