“We can’t say who the shooter is yet, but we’re close,” said Special Agent Kevin Rojek. “We don’t think there’s any more danger,” he added.
During Saturday’s rally, Trump was shot in the ear, causing bleeding. Despite this, he came back and raised his fist. The Secret Service said the shooter died, one person at the rally died, and two were hurt. News reports call it an assassination attempt.
Trump, 78, was starting his speech when shots were heard. He grabbed his ear and kneeled. Agents protected him. A minute later, he stood up, his hat knocked off, and said “wait” before leaving.
“I was hit in my right ear,” Trump said later. “There was a lot of blood.”
The shooter’s identity and reason are unknown. Leaders from both parties condemned the violence.
Trump’s campaign said he’s “doing well.” Bloomberg reported he left the hospital.
The shooting happened less than four months before the November 5 election. Trump and Biden are expected to have a close race.
Biden said, “Violence has no place in America. We need to unite against it.” A White House official said Biden talked to Trump after the shooting.
