Citroen has officially launched the production version of the Basalt coupe-SUV, following the initial design sketches released in March. This new model, part of Citroen’s C-Cubed program tailored for India, will also be available in South American and European markets. The Basalt introduces a new segment of coupe-SUVs to the competitive midsize SUV category, joining the Tata Curvv as another notable entry in this niche.

Design and Exterior
The Citroen Basalt closely resembles the design sketches shown earlier, with the main change being a switch from gloss black to matte plastic for the body cladding. Its design is largely inspired by the C3 Aircross SUV, sharing similar underpinnings. The front fascia features a familiar look with a chrome-lined Chevron logo, a two-part grille, and a faux silver skid plate. Notably, the Basalt introduces projector headlamps for the first time in a C-Cubed model in India, although the LED daytime running lights and bonnet design remain unchanged.
The side profile of the Basalt is marked by squared-off wheel arch cladding, a pinched window line, and a smoothly flowing roofline that meets a high boot deck. It rides on stylish 17-inch alloy wheels and retains pull-type door handles from the C3 Aircross. The rear end features a well-contoured tailgate, halogen tail lamps with a 3D effect, and a dual-tone bumper finished in black and silver.
Color Options: The Basalt will be available in five monotone colors—Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red. White and red variants also offer a contrasting black roof.

Interior and Features
Inside, the Basalt retains the dashboard layout from the C3 Aircross but includes several upgrades. It features a new HVAC panel with digital readouts, toggle switches, and automatic climate control, replacing the manual AC controls from the C3 Aircross. Additional upgrades include a larger front armrest with storage, restyled rear headrests, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench—a segment-first feature. The Basalt’s boot offers a spacious 470 liters of luggage capacity, with AC vents for rear passengers located on the roof and behind the front center armrest.

The interior also boasts a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster in higher trims, and a 15W wireless smartphone charger. Citroen’s signature C-Cubed design elements are visible on the central AC vents and steering wheel, complemented by a mix of gloss black and textured surfaces.

The Basalt offers two 1.2-litre petrol engine options:
- Naturally Aspirated: 82hp and 115Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual.
- Turbo-Petrol: 110hp, with 190Nm on a 6-speed manual or 205Nm with a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Fuel efficiency figures are claimed as 18kpl for the NA petrol, 19.5kpl for the turbo-petrol manual, and 18.7kpl for the turbo-petrol automatic.
Rivals and Competition
The Citroen Basalt enters a competitive midsize SUV market, facing direct competition from the Tata Curvv and traditional SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate.
