After seeing significant growth in box office collections on Sunday, Kartik Aaryan’s “Chandu Champion,” directed by Kabir Khan, successfully maintained strong performance on Monday. Despite a sharp decline from Sunday, the sports drama earned nearly as much as it did on its opening day, Friday, June 14. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, “Chandu Champion” earned approximately Rs 4.75 crore on Monday, which was a holiday due to Eid. On Sunday, the film earned an impressive Rs 9.75 crore, bringing its total four-day earnings to Rs 26.25 crore.
The film’s slow but steady growth is attributed to positive word of mouth and its inspirational story about India’s first Paralympics gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar. “Chandu Champion” is outperforming Kartik Aaryan’s previous film, “Satyaprem Ki Kathaa,” which earned Rs 3.3 crore on its first Monday. However, the collections are still Kartik’s previous blockbuster “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.”
Director Kabir Khan, a master director who earlier helmed movies like “Ek Tha Tiger” and “Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” faced a low point with his previous film, “83,” which underperformed due to the pandemic phase. Kartik Aaryan has had a mixed career recently, with successes like “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” and flops like “Shehzada.”
“Chandu Champion” is also competing with Maddock Films’ latest hit “Munjya,” directed by Marathi director – Aditya Sarpotdar which is a supernatural horror comedy that continues to draw audiences two weeks after its release. “Munjya” had a 30 percent revenue increase over its second weekend and its second Monday collection is comparable to “Chandu Champion’s.” “Munjya,” starring Sharvari and Mona Singh, has earned a total of Rs 55.75 crore so far.
