BMW Motorrad has introduced the new R 12 and R 12 nineT roadster models in India, priced at Rs 19.90 lakh and Rs 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
Shared Engine and Key Specifications
Both models are powered by the same 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine, delivering 110hp at 7,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Despite sharing the same engine, there is a Rs 1 lakh price difference between the two models.

Design and Features
The R 12 and R 12 nineT are part of BMW’s heritage motorcycle range, competing with the Triumph Speed Twin and the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster in India. These models are characterized by their classic retro design, featuring unique elements like an aluminium tank, brushed side panels, dual exhausts, and spoke wheels.
The BMW R 12 nineT boasts an aluminium tank with brushed side panels, while the R 12 sports a steel tank reminiscent of the 1970s BMW /5 models. Both models are equipped with full-LED lighting, an adaptive LED headlamp, and advanced electronics including traction control, cornering ABS, engine braking control, keyless ignition, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Riding Modes and Performance
The R 12 nineT comes with standard riding modes: “Rain,” “Road,” and “Dynamic.” The new R 12 offers “Roll” and “Rock” modes. Both models ride on 17-inch wheels, with a 45mm USD fork at the front and a paralever swingarm at the rear. Braking duties are handled by 310mm discs at the front and a single 265mm rotor at the rear.
Optional Enhancements
For those seeking additional comfort and functionality, BMW offers the optional Comfort Package. This package includes features like Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control, enhancing the overall riding experience.
