On Wednesday night, LK Advani, a stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. A spokesperson from AIIMS confirmed that the 96-year-old leader is currently in stable condition and is under observation.
Earlier this year in March, Advani was honored with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award by President Droupadi Murmu at his residence. The event was significant, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting Advani’s enduring influence and contributions to Indian politics.
Advani’s political career spans several decades of significant leadership roles within the BJP. Notably, he served as the Minister of Home Affairs from 1998 to 2004 and held the position of Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004. His tenure and leadership were pivotal in shaping the BJP’s policies and strategies during crucial periods of India’s political landscape.
As one of the co-founders of the BJP, Advani played a crucial role in the party’s evolution and rise to prominence in Indian politics. His candidacy as the BJP’s prime ministerial nominee in the 2009 general election underscored his stature within the party and his influence on national politics.
Advani’s current hospitalization at AIIMS, though concerning, comes after a distinguished career marked by significant achievements and contributions to India’s political and social fabric. His health and recovery will be closely monitored, reflecting the nation’s regard for his enduring legacy and his pivotal role in contemporary Indian politics.
