Dramatic footage captured flames engulfing the aircraft’s tail shortly after takeoff, startling witnesses on the ground with sudden flashes of light and prompting concerned remarks about an engine fire.
Thankfully, despite the terrifying spectacle, none of the approximately 400 passengers on board the Boeing 777 bound for Paris, France, sustained injuries, as confirmed by Air Canada representatives. The airline attributed the fire to a compressor issue in the engine, necessitating an early return to the airport, just 30 minutes into the flight.
Following standard procedures, airport response vehicles conducted an inspection upon the aircraft’s landing, and it taxied back to the gate without further incident. Departing at 8:46 pm, the flight swiftly circled back, safely touching down at the same airport by 9:50 pm, according to FlightAware.
