Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been remanded to judicial custody in the Renukaswamy murder case until July 4, along with four alleged accomplices. Darshan had been in police custody since June 11, and his transfer to judicial custody was decided by the court. The Special Public Prosecutor requested separate jails across Karnataka for the accused, a plea contested by Darshan’s legal team.
Following the court’s decision, Darshan and his associates were transferred to the central prison at Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru. Outside the court, a large gathering of Darshan’s fans vocally supported him, while he acknowledged their presence from inside a police vehicle.
Earlier, thirteen other individuals, including Darshan’s friend Pavithra Gowda, were also remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. In total, 17 people involved in the murder case.
According to police sources, the incident arose from alleged obscene messages sent by Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, to Pavithra Gowda. This purportedly angered Darshan, leading to the fatal altercation. Renukaswamy’s body was discovered near a stormwater drain close to an apartment in Sumanahalli on June 9. The post-mortem report indicated that his death resulted from shock and hemorrhage due to multiple blunt injuries.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to Darshan’s celebrity status and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The judicial process will now proceed as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances and responsibilities in this tragic event.
